Penny started painting as a hobby several years ago, attending various art courses. This soon became a passion, and she developed her creativity further'.
Nearing retirement, she decided to enrol in a part-time degree course at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology( ATU), successfully graduating in 2017 with a BA merit in Art and Design.
Her work covers many genres and is determined by colour, which she says “has a mind of its own”. She employs a variety of mediums and techniques to create piece that grow organically guided by the colours selected. Through her work, she seeks to spark an emotional connection with viewers, celebrating the transformative power of colour. Her inspiration comes from studying masters such as Vassilly Kadinsky; Josef Albers, Norman Toynton, Paul Klee to name a few.
Penny was recently successful in obtaining an offer of a residency with the Lodestar School of Art, held in Le Couvent de la Tourette, a UNESCO heritage site outside Lyon, France. By taking part in the 10 day residency, her work has evolved further.
Penny is a member of Visual Artists Ireland, Kinvara Area Visual Artists and The Galway Art Club (founded over 80 years ago).
